Baby Roark ~ Week 38

20140719-130248-46968039.jpg

Size? Baby Roark is about the size of a watermelon – hopefully the smaller, seedless kind (19-22 in., around 6.3 to 6.5 lbs.)
Measuring: On track
Heartbeat? Between 135 to 140 at last appointment
Total weight gain/loss? 40 lbs. or so (the scale at the doctors office says I’ve gained more if I go later in the day… Which means I try to go as early as I can!)
Maternity clothes? yep!
Cravings? Still craving watermelon and fruit! Found a great sale at Sprouts this week and bought two melons for what I normally pay for just one at Aldi… Half of one was gone in a day between Eric and me. Might have to go back and get more before the sale is over.
Best moment of the week? Going grocery shopping for the (hopefully) last time before baby Roark arrives. We are stocked up and ready for those blurry first weeks… Now just to make a few freezer meals and we’re set!
Movement? Yep! He’s trying to push his way out through my right side most days, but I think he’s starting to figure out that it’s better to go down than up at this point… Hopefully for all of us.
Gender Predictions? It’s a boy!
What do I miss? Restful sleep. While I can fall asleep at the drop of a hat, I don’t wake up feeling well rested. Maybe I can catch up this weekend since it’s a slower one for us.
What am I looking forward to? Holding my little boy. We haven’t had another sonogram since our 19 week appointment because everything has gone so well. The anticipation is killing me now. Next time, we’re going to schedule one at 30 weeks if the doctor says it’s necessary or not. It’s been too long since the beginning of March.
How are you feeling? In the awkward, bulky stage, but I know it won’t be for that much longer.

Baby Roark ~ Week 37

20140709-125611-46571070.jpg

Size? Baby Roark is about the size of a bunch of Swiss chard (19-22 in., around 6 to 6.3 lbs.)
Measuring: On track
Total weight gain/loss? 38 lbs. or so
Maternity clothes? yep!
Cravings? Still loving as much watermelon and cantaloupe as I can get… Fortunately, we also have some watermelons growing in our backyard garden. Eric’s worried about what we’ll do with them all when they’re ripe, but I have no doubt we’ll find a good (and tasty) solution.
Stretch marks? Not that I can tell, but there’s still a few weeks to go… I’m sure the real test will be after our little guy he’s here and thing shrink back.
Best moment of the week? Setting up the pack-n-play with the napper/changer in our room and getting all of the things Jonathan will need in the first few weeks ready to go. Getting organized helps me rest a little easier too (even if we still need to hang pictures and curtains in the nursery still).
Movement? While it’s slowed down a bit since he’s running out of room, I have a constant reminder that he’s there. He especially likes it after I eat something sweet and does a few stretches and kicks with the burst of sudden energy (but it can last up to an hour or more sometimes which is crazy).
Gender Predictions? It’s a boy!
What do I miss? Being able to organize things in my head for work and home while keeping them separate. Post-it notes have become my friend, and there are lists galore around our house, in my purse, the car, and who knows where else you’ll find them.
What am I looking forward to? Dying the curtains blue this weekend and getting them hung in the nursery. I think that will make the room look a little more complete (now that the ceiling fan is up and running).
How are you feeling? The tiredness and bulky feeling has become somewhat normal. I’m looking forward to the “quick” weight loss afterwards though. It’s truly amazing how everything can grow and shrink without much extra help.

Baby Roark ~ Week 36

20140703-165425-60865886.jpg

Size? Baby Roark is about the size of a large cantaloupe (19-22 in., around 5.5 to. 6 lbs.)
Measuring: On track
Total weight gain/loss? 38 lbs. or so
Maternity clothes? yep!
Cravings? The healthy ones are watermelon and cantaloupe. The not so healthy are marshmallows and chocolate/ice cream sandwiches. Hopefully I can balance them out to maybe not sit and eat all of the sweets all at once… The watermelon on the other hand…
Stretch marks? maybe a few… I’m sure the real test will be after our little guy he’s here and thing shrink back.
Best moment of the week? Having Eric home from school and all his little projects on process. It was a little bit of a hairy start to the week, but I’m glad he has some time to get the last-minute baby projects and his “nesting” done before too long.
Movement? Yep! I can tell exactly where he is all the time. He even started to hiccup this week. Such a fun feeling.
Gender Predictions? It’s a boy!
What do I miss? Getting around easily and by feeling so weighed down. I think I’m starting to see why women don’t like the last few weeks, but I’m just hoping they will fly and be a thing of the past soon.
What am I looking forward to? catching up on things, seeing family and relaxing this weekend. A three-day weekend will be so nice!
How are you feeling? The fatigue has definitely set in again. Guess our little guy needs more of my energy to do his final preparations. As we do our last-minute prep here, we are getting more excited to see and hold him. Only a few more weeks to go! (Fingers crossed)

Roark Baby ~ Week 35

20140626-075809-28689871.jpg

Size? Baby Roark is about the size of a large cantaloupe (19-22 in., around 5 to 5.5 lbs.)
Measuring: On track – the doc said he was about 4.5 lbs last week at our appointment so we’re on track to have a 7 lb. baby. Whew!
Total weight gain/loss? around 36 lbs. or so.
Maternity clothes? yep!
Cravings? Still trying to eat more protein, but my sweet tooth kicks in around 3 pm everyday. The veggies and humus are just not the same… Maybe some if these healthy alternatives I keep reading about will help. We’ll see!
Stretch marks? maybe a few… Clothes wrinkles make it hard to decipher in the morning and evenings. Plus, I can’t see around my belly much anymore without our full length mirror.
Best moment of the week? All this rain! Even though it makes humidity a million times worse, it’s great to see everything so green and enjoy the cool mornings before the heat comes in the afternoon. It would be great if it continued a little longer than just this week — in steady waves so as to not cause more flooding, right?
Movement? he’s doing the wave and all now. Kind of fun to watch him squirm around in there. I’m not as self-conscious about t anymore either.
Gender Predictions? It’s a boy!
What do I miss? Fitting into my clothes… It is a constant wardrobe change to see what fits and what needs to be out back in the closet. While I look huge, I have forgotten what it felt like before I was pregnant… Except that it was a lot easier to get dressed for work in the morning. It just takes more planning now.
What am I looking forward to? Meeting my cousins third little one on Thursday! Little Brooke will join us soon and we’re all so excited to meet her. I’m sure she’ll be just as adorable and spunky as her older sisters.
How are you feeling? Huge… But good overall. It’s a constant battle to drink enough water each day, but the days I do it makes a huge difference. Maybe I should just start wearing one of those hydration backpacks that joggers and hikers wear. I am already a public spectacle so now people could make small talk about that rather than my due date, their pregnancy, the heat, terrible birth and baby stories and such. I’m sure it will int get worse before it gets better though. I just shrug them of for the most part.

Baby Roark ~ Week 34

20140620-111207-40327502.jpg

Size? Baby Roark is about the size of a pineapple (19-22 in., 5 lbs.)
Measuring: on track
Total weight gain/loss? around 32 lbs. or so.
Maternity clothes? yep!
Cravings? Still craving sweets. I read somewhere it could be due to a lack of protein, so I’ve been trying to make sure what I eat has enough protein… But that afternoon sugar attack still comes! Going to need to do better with my willpower.
Stretch marks? maybe a few… They’re not dark so it’s hard to tell if they’re marks or just wrinkles from clothing.
Best moment of the week? Celebrating all the fathers last weekend with a trip to the park and a good old fashion wrestling match. My grandpa is still so fascinated with the “sport”.
Movement? Yep! It’s great to know he’s there and doing well.
Gender Predictions? It’s a boy!
What do I miss? For some reason my mind always goes to how clothing fits, but I think it’s just been so long (8 months) that I’ve forgotten a bit about what is was like not pregnant.
What am I looking forward to? The end of summer – means the heat will be gone and I have a excuse to stay at home and spend some quality time with our little guy.
How are you feeling? I’m a bit tired for sure, but I think it’s just all the extra energy is gone and last minute things keep popping up. We’re looking at daycares in the area, so that makes me emotional too. I’m so glad Eric is so patient and willing to entertain my crazy ups and downs.

Baby Roark ~ Week 33

20140612-071958-26398096.jpg

Size? Baby Roark is about the size of a honeydew (19 in., 4.5 lbs.)
Measuring: on track
Total weight gain/loss? around 32 lbs. or so. Trying hard to keep it in the range the doc gave us but will probably go a little over before it’s all said and done.
Maternity clothes? yep!
Cravings? Anything with sugar (fruit, candy, ice cream…yum!) and carbs (crackers, popcorn, bread…you name it).
Stretch marks? Not yet!
Best moment of the week? Finishing our labor and delivery class… While it was certainly more graphic than either of us would have liked it was informative and makes us that much more excited to have our little guy here with us soon.
Movement? Very strong! He’s starting to run out of room Andy tummy does the wave a few times a day. He’s more active in the morning and after lunch. Food gives him the energy to do his daily aerobics and explore his little area more.
Gender Predictions? It’s a boy!
What do I miss? The ability to focus on one thin at a time. It feels like there are so many things going on when really it is just my normal level I activity mixed with pregnancy brain. Luckily, I haven’t had too many instances of forgetfulness but they are certainly more frequent. Does it really last for a year after I give birth too?
What am I looking forward to? Holding our little guy. It’s fun to daydream about what he will look like, act like and do in life. I’m sure he’ll be adventurous and energetic like all little boys, but as we get closer to his arrival it makes it all the harder to wait.
How are you feeling? Pretty good… Even despite the random comments from strangers. Cashiers seem to be the worse. They are trying to make small talk, but don’t phrase their questions well at all. Here are some of the best examples so far – “How many days do you have left?” “How much weight have you gained so far?” – People are surprisingly comfortable with asking about your weight and otherwise private issues when you’re pregnant. Luckily, no strangers have been touching my tummy grocery store or anything.

Baby Roark ~ Week 32

20140605-223602-81362747.jpg

strong>Size? Baby Roark is about the size of a head of lettuce (19 in., 3.9 lbs.)
Heartbeat: 140-145 at 30 week appointment
Measuring: on track
Total weight gain/loss? probably around 30 lbs. When I go back to the doc I’ll get the exact number.
Maternity clothes? yep!
Cravings? Anything with sugar!
Stretch marks? Not yet!
Best moment of the week? Putting together the nursery with Eric and washing our little one’s first load of laundry. While the clothes didn’t take up much room, the blankets and other fabric items, like the bouncer cover and sheets, did. I feel so much more prepared for our little guy now!
Movement? very strong! He is warming up for the World Cup next week and taking practice shots at my side, ribs and bladder. It even more of an incentive to eat small meals and lay off the sugary foods/ snacks.
Gender Predictions? It’s a boy!
What do I miss? Free time/ energy. With waning energy levels my days seem so much shorter so I don’t have much free time outpace of daily to-dos and such
What am I looking forward to? Seeing the initial plans for the crib bedding. My mom is starting to see the dust ruffle this week and the blanket and bumper won’t be far behind. It just feels that much more special to have something your family has created for your little guy.
How are you feeling? I’ve been blessed with a healthy pregnancy and can’t really complain. With all the variables involved, a little fatigue or swollen ankles are nothing compared to the alternatives. Praying for a healthy journey through the last couple of months before we get to meet our little one.

Baby Roark ~ Week 31

20140529-175311-64391842.jpg

A little pre-workout photo… At least my eyes are open since it’s about 5:45 am when I am able to fit it in most days.

Size? Baby Roark is about the size of a head of lettuce (18 in., 3.2 lbs.)
Heartbeat: 140-145 at 30 week appointment
Measuring: on track
Total weight gain/loss? 27 lbs. at last Fridays appointment
Maternity clothes? yep!
Cravings? Anything with sugar! My weakness this weekend were cookies, cupcakes and more cookies. I do well all day with healthy snacks and meals, but at the 5 o’clock witching hour it all goes to pot. A few sweets never hurt anyone, right?
Stretch marks? Not yet!
Best moment of the week? Getting to see my younger brother and SIL. It had been almost 5 months since we saw them last and the couple of times we were able to get together while they were in town or a friends wedding were great. Can’t wait until they come back for Thanksgiving.
Movement? Oh yeah! He moves when I eat, just sitting still, sleep, you name it. I wonder if other people can see my tummy jump as much as I do. It’s pretty noticeable at times.
Gender Predictions? It’s a boy!
What do I miss? I never thought I’d say it, but multi-tasking. I can only focus on one thin at a time and be able to complete it well. Otherwise, I will leave it undone and forget it was even started. It’s happened way too many times to count these past few weeks.
What am I looking forward to? A weekend of no plans! I say that a lot, but it feels like we only get one weekend a month that we don’t have to run all over Gods green earth seeing people and doing things. After a stressful week at work, it’s nice to just for us both to get some time to work on our own projects and feel rested for the next week come Monday.
How are you feeling? Still feeling pretty good… Just really tired again. Our little guy is on the fast track to plump up before he arrives and I’m just hoping that’s closer to the final weight if 7 lbs. than high 8lbs. babies.

Baby Roark ~ Week 30

20140521-073402-27242097.jpg

Size? Baby Roark is about the size of a butternut squash (17 in., 3.1 lbs.)
Heartbeat: 143-145 at 28 week appointment
Measuring: on track
Total weight gain/loss? 25-27 lbs. (will find out at our now bi-weekly appointment this week)
Maternity clothes? yep!
Cravings? Fruit and carbs… All those things that aren’t on the recommended prego steady weight gain diet, but staying strong! The constant reminder of the nourishment for our little guy keeps me on track.
Stretch marks? Not yet!
Best moment of the week? Celebrating our little one with lifelong friends and family. It was so precious to see how much everyone already cares for him. I’m sure we’ll have lots of wiki hands to hold him once he arrives.
Movement? He’s getting more noticeable that’s for sure. I still haven’t been able to figure out exactly which body part is moving but I am getting closer to figuring it out. Sometimes I wish there was a window inside to see his little hands and feet move around.
Gender Predictions? It’s a boy!
What do I miss? My belly is noticeably taking up more space so bending down and stretching after my workouts (which only happen every other day). It is a bit strange to be a little more limited in my mobility since it wasn’t as big of an issue until now (no pun intended).
What am I looking forward to? A three day weekend!! And my brother and SIL will be coming for a quick visit for a friends wedding. I haven’t seen them since Christmas so I’m really excited to get to see them for a little bit while they’re in town.
How are you feeling? Tired and a bit overwhelmed at times, but good. Just taking it one day at a time and planning a head when I can. It’s the little things like making my lunch the night before and laying out my clothes that seem to make the biggest difference. I’m sure this is just training for what is to come when we have a whole other person to care for on a daily basis.

Baby Roark ~ Week 29

Like the shirt Eric bought as part of my Mother’s Day gift? I really think that’s what baby is trying to tell me sometimes with all his poking and jabbing.

20140515-084059.jpg

Size? Baby Roark is about the size of a cabbage (17 in.,2.9 lbs.)
Heartbeat: 143-145 at 28 week appointment
Measuring: on track
Total weight gain/loss? 25 lbs. at this week’s appointment
Maternity clothes? Yes, and I had a sweet friend let me barrow some of her summer dresses to change it up a bit. It’s so great to have friends who have been there and know how it feels to be pregnant during the summer (fingers crossed these 50 degree mornings last a little longer).
Cravings? I have t really craved one thing during this pregnancy, but I do try to change up my snacks and meals each day. So far, I think I’ve done well overall at staying healthy. I just wish I had more time or from behind my desk to stay energized.
Stretch marks? Haven’t found any yet… Hopefully I have at least another month or so before they make their appearance.
Best moment of the week? Celebrating all the moms in my family on Sunday. It’s so special to see how each one cares for our family with their different strengths and gentle spirits.
Movement? Yep! He’s getting stronger too, and it takes me by surprise. It’s fun to still feel the flutters as he rolls and flips around.
Gender Predictions? It’s a boy!
What do I miss? I’ve gotten used to the feeling of being pregnant and the new changes it brings everyday. I guess i miss what my body used to feel like, but I honestly can’t remember what “normal” felt like anymore.
What am I looking forward to? There are so many things I could list here. This weekend is packed with fun things to look forward to – a baby shower, date night, picnic after church, maternity photo shoot and hopefully a chance to sleep in past 6 am.
How are you feeling? Very tired… Early mornings this week and last (5am or so) make it hard to stay up most nights without crashing at 9:30 or so. It’s nice to wake up rested and not have too many institutions in the middle of the night – yet!
